Helicopter Charter Questions

How Safe Is Helicopter Charter?

Helicopter Charter and flying in general is statistically very safe; far safer than driving.  Awesome Flight LLC is proud of it’s 100% safety record with no accidents or violations since it’s formation in 2003.  We take pride in our equipment with uncompromising standards in safety.  With decades of flight experience and thousands of logged hours in flight time you can be safe with Awesome Flight.

What If The Weather Is Bad?

If the weather is unsafe we will not fly.  Don’t worry, you will not be charged.  We will give you as much advanced notice regarding unsafe weather as we can.  If possible, options such as early departure, late departure, and re-scheduling will be given.  If the options don’t work for you we will fully cancel your helicopter charter with no charge.

Bad weather includes, but is not limited to snowstorms, icing, heavy rain, hail, thunderstorms, fog, extremely low cloud cover, etc.  We can sometimes fly around isolated storms.  Generally the stuff we don’t want to be in, you don’t want to be in!

Can You Fly In Extremely Cold or Warm Weather?

Yes, we can fly in the cold and do.  In the winter our aircraft are hangared so after the snow stops we’re ready to go.  While airplanes and airlines may be stuck, we can still fly because we don’t need a runway.  Our helicopter type is equipped with heat so you’ll be nice and warm.

In the summer, we have air conditioning to keep you cool on your way to the beach, summer home, and more…

Can You Fly To My Destination If It’s Not Listed?

There are thousands of airports and heliports that we can fly to; too many to list.  Let us know where you would like to go and we will figure out the best solution.  Sometimes we can even land on your private property if it’s safe and okay with local zoning.

(Note: Off airport or off heliport landings are not allowed in New York City, Westchester County, Fairfield County, and The Hamptons. The State of New Jersey also does not allow off airport or off heliport landings without a permit. We can however land at approved airports and heliports in many remote locations. We have landed on private property in rural upstate New York, rural Pennsylvania, and rural Connecticut. Call (914) 450-2635 for more information.)

What If I’m Late?

Please be on time. Additional charges will apply, or cancellation with full charter cost will be charged for customers who are late. Heliports are like no parking zones for helicopters. In some cases we have 5 minutes before we are forced to depart.

What’s Your Cancellation Policy?

Cancellations prior to 48 hours before departure time will not be charged.  Cancellations made within 48 hours of departure time, or no shows will be charged 50% to 100% of the flight cost.  In the event there is unsafe weather or a government flight restriction that prohibits us from flying you will not be charged.

Why Do Night Flights Cost More?

Landing fees in New York City at night can really be expensive.  New York City Heliports have additional charges after 7:00PM every day, and before 7:00AM Monday through Friday and before 11:00AM Saturday through Sunday.  We may also charge an additional fee for extremely late flights as it affects our ability to fly the next day.  The Federal Aviation Administration requires crew rest periods because pilots need their sleep (this is good for you too.)

Why Do You Charge Half The Cost Of Your Competition?

Our helicopter types take three or four passengers and most of our competitors helicopters take six passengers.  A smaller helicopter equates to a lower cost for you.  If there are just one or two passengers a larger helicopter is a waste of money and the safety standards are no greater.

How Much Baggage Can You Accommodate?

Robinson R66

When there are four passengers our baggage area can take up to five small carry on sized bags or several small checked bags.  Under the seats very small personal items may be stowed.

For four golfers we can accommodate four small golf bags.

Can You Accommodate Customers Over 300 Pounds (136 Kilograms?)

Sorry, but no.  The manufacturer of the helicopter (Robinson Helicopter) strictly prohibits more than 300 pounds per seat for safety reasons.  As a result, the Federal Aviation Administration mandates that we do not carry passengers over 300 pounds.

Why Do You Need To Know My Weight?

For safety reasons the Federal Aviation Administration mandates that we ask for your weight(s) including the weight of your baggage.  We then verify that the helicopter is within safe limits of operation.  Please be honest as this is important.

Is Your Helicopter Environmentally Friendly?

Yes, our helicopters are environmentally friendly.  Our helicopter types typically consume much less fuel than our competitors.  Our helicopter types also are the quietest helicopters in the charter market.  We take noise pollution seriously and do our best to keep the neighborhood peaceful.

Do You Allow Pets?

If the pets are caged, don’t create a safety hazard, don’t make a mess, and the cage can be seat belted then yes.  Please call (914) 450-2635 for details.
